Run for Freedom 2007
Updates From The Road
Today we were greeted by the river animals, right after we all started to get
there a elderly man showed up and started feeding the ducks, geese and mother
and child ground hog. For the last couple of years now we have been greeted by
the ground hogs and now there are babies. This first section of the run is
really tough it has a lot of traffic, construction, strip malls on and on. We
started out with a reading from the Leonard Peltier
web site.
We finished up around 2:30 and headed for Delza and
Cathy's as always we are greated by a gang of Dogs and Cats the picture above is
only about 1/2 of them. Delza and Cathy have been hosting our first overnight on
this run for the last four years now. They have both been my friends for a long
time Delza I have known for almost 30 years. They always take really good care of
us. They both know about Leonard Peltier and this is their way of supporting
him. For the last couple of years now Delza has been bicycling so he asked me
if he could ride a few miles this year for Leonard. And I said yes so tomorrow
we will have our first rider for freedom.
After a great rest we received a phone call from our friend Terry Stagman saying
at the last minute he had to work and wanted to wish us luck. Delza led us off
and is going to cover 30 miles that leaves the rest of us around 25 miles to
cover. This section has a lot of hills but the road is a little more quiet and
the scenery is beautiful.
Towards the end of the day we got some really needed rain
and I got the pleasure of running through it. We ended the run at Serpent
Moundthe largest and serpent effigy in the United
States. Nearly a quarter of a mile long,Serpent
Moundapparently represents an uncoiling serpent and
was built buy the Adena (800 BC-AD 100). Burial Mounds also surround the serpent,
a very proper place to end this run. Our thoughts and prayers are withLeonard Peltierand all prisoners of conscience.
